What happens in your bathroom
Three stages, and you know what happens in each

Design & estimate
We measure the room, agree the layout, the tile and the fixtures, and put an itemized price and a start date in writing. Permits are pulled before anything is opened up.

Demolition & rough-in
Old tile, tub and vanity come out. Supply and drain lines are re-run for the new layout, the shower pan and walls are waterproofed, and the county inspects before we close anything up.

Install & finish
Tile, glass, vanity, fixtures and lighting go in. We seal, clean the site, run the final inspection and hand the bathroom back ready to use.

Everything else in a bathroom can be replaced later. The waterproofing cannot, or not without demolishing the room a second time, so it is the part worth asking every contractor about.
The pan is built with slope to the drain and the membrane runs up the walls as a continuous system rather than being brushed on at the end. Then we fill it, leave it, and check the level before any tile is laid. If it has dropped we find out why while the room is still open.
Ventilation is the other thing that gets skipped in this climate. The exhaust fan has to be rated for the size of the room and ducted outside the building, not into the attic.

What I remember most about working on the design was how well the designer listened to me. I really didn’t have to explain every little detail. She understood what I was looking for and the final result was exactly what I had in mind.
The timeline worked great for me too. If anything took a little longer, it was probably because of me. Overall, I had a really good experience and felt like my ideas were actually heard.
The thing I liked most was how involved the designer was throughout the whole process. She was really great to work with. She answered all my questions quickly and understood what I was trying to explain, even when I wasn’t sure how to describe it.
